Project Overview

Spirit of Scotland is a short editorial series of 8 episodes that aired on STV, which is currently being developed into a long-form programme based on its success and reception. The series is an eclectic mix of stories from across Scotland representing the diversity of Scottish identity and character with a common theme; the spirit of Scotland. The series explored how this spirit varies from person, to culture, to region. For some it’s shared experiences, for others looking after the vulnerable, but one thing is clear; community defines the spirit of Scotland. I created the concept for the programme, and pitched to both the channel and external sponsors. Once commissioned, I researched and sourced the contributors featured in the series, conducted their on-screen interviews, and oversaw the overall creative development and production of the series in collaboration with UpNext Studios. The aim of the project was to challenge perceptions of what it means to be Scottish, and the kind of country that Scotland is today. Reframing the public’s perception of Scotland as a modern and exciting country that is building a progressive, inclusive and innovative society with local communities at the grassroots of the country’s future.
